We put our 2-in-1 Blue Grey Screen 5x6.5Ft/1.5x2m Portable Pop Up Backdrop on the floor for crews who need the shot up before the light changes.

The surface is cotton, which gives you a matte face that will not throw the key back at the lens. The build includes a collapsible frame, a folding frame, a portable format and a reversible panel. If a size is missing from this page, it is because we do not make it, not because it sold out.

Key features

  • 2-in-1 DESIGN: Blue and gray double-sided chrome keyed screen to meet different camera needs, say goodbye to the hassle of a single blue background or gray background, choose the background you need for your shots at any time
  • VELCRO DESIGN: No need to remove the backdrop stand when installing, just gently peel off the Velcro, easy to operate, can be used repeatedly, greatly saving your time
  • USE EVERYWHERE: You can hang the backdrop on a tripod or hook by the ring at the top. You can also lean it against a wall or door frame to provide a backdrop anywhere. And it keeps its shape without wrinkles!

The job it does

Fabric and panels are the half of the set the camera actually photographs. The stand holds the height; this holds the colour. Keep the subject a step forward of the backdrop and the green stays off their shoulders, which is the difference between a key that takes a minute and a key that takes an evening.

Matching it to a photography backdrop stand

Size is a room problem before it is a shopping problem. Take the wall you shoot against, measure across it and subtract a foot at each end for the legs — the rest is what the frame can accommodate once it is open. Then decide height, because that is the figure people change their mind about the moment the subject stands up: seven feet suits seated work, full-length needs the sections fully expanded so the top edge of a white, black, green or seamless muslin surface never appears. Leave space between the subject and the surface too; stood directly against it, a face picks up every mark behind it. A small room rewards a little extra span, which is where an additional panel or a prop goes. In general, choosing one size up is the cheaper mistake.

Getting it standing

Assembly is quick and standard. Pull each telescopic section up by hand, lock the adjustable collar, square the base. The mounting threads are the usual size for this kind of gear, so a fitting borrowed from another stand will do, and the whole setup takes one pair of hands. Stability comes from the base rather than the column: spread the legs fully, position the feet out of the walkway, and it sits stable on a floor that is not quite flat. Anything heavy hanging on the system wants weight at the feet as well.

Clamps, hooks and the top edge

A spring clamp at each corner secures the top edge and hooks spread the load along the crossbar, so the surface hangs straight instead of scalloping between two points. The same clamp keeps a light cable or a tripod leg out of frame when the kit gets crowded, without needing a second pair of hands.

Travel, bag and care

Transport is the test most of this kit fails. Folded it is compact, the carry bag swallows the collapsible frame and the small extra parts, and the whole package carries on one shoulder. Durability lives in the fittings. Aluminum alloy gives an enhanced strength for the weight, the material of the locking collars decides the rest, and the practicality of a professional design beats a powerful specification nobody uses. Quality here means the metal has not moved in a year. Keep it dry and the care budget is a cloth. Grit in a joint wears a section faster than rain does; a rolled surface arrives without a wrinkle, a folded one arrives with a map of itself.
