This is our answer for the setup that has to go up, hold still and come down the same evening.

We build it in stainless steel because gear that lives in a car boot gets handled badly. You also get a heavy-duty build and 360-degree rotation. We would rather you bought the smaller frame and used it than the big one that stays in the bag.

Key features

  • 4.9FT - 10.8FT HEIGHT RANGE: Height of center stand column can be adjusted from 4.9ft/150cm to 10.8ft/330cm,giving you complete control over your photography setup
  • ELECTROPLATED FOR LONGEVITY: Made of 100% stainless steel, the c stand offers lasting performance. C-stand's key joints feature a plating process that boosts resistance to wear and corrosion, while also enhancing their brightness
  • PROTECTION DESIGN: With its built-in spring mechanism, the c-stand keeps your photography equipment safe from drops during height adjustments, ensuring smooth and worry-free operation
  • WIDE APPLICATION: With 1/4" and 3/8" threaded ends, heavy duty c stands are versatile and compatible with a wide array of photography gear, such as studio reflectors, umbrellas, softboxes, monolights
  • FLEXIBLE ANGLE ADJUSTMENT: C stand's boom arm offers 360° rotation for versatile positioning. Grip Head equipped with four holes, it fits rods, arms, and umbrella shafts in different sizes of various diameters

What this one is for

Height is the specification people regret. For a seated portrait the key wants to be a little above eye level with room to angle down; for background support, match the stand to the backdrop you already own rather than the other way round.

Sizing it against your photography backdrop stand

Size is a room problem before it is a shopping problem. Take the wall you shoot against, measure across it and subtract a foot at each end for the legs — the rest is what the frame can accommodate once it is open. Then decide height, because that is the figure people change their mind about the moment the subject stands up: seven feet suits seated work, full-length needs the sections fully expanded so the top edge of a white, black, green or seamless muslin surface never appears. Leave space between the subject and the surface too; stood directly against it, a face picks up every mark behind it. A small room rewards a little extra span, which is where an additional panel or a prop goes. In general, choosing one size up is the cheaper mistake.

Putting it up

Setup is hands only. The sections are telescopic, so you assemble it by pulling up and locking rather than by counting parts, and the adjustable collars let you stop anywhere between the stops. Mounting uses the standard fitting for this type of gear, so it mates with what is already in your bag, and it goes up quickly enough to do alone. Stability is a question of footprint. Open the legs to their stops, press the feet down, and position the base so the heaviest part of the load sits over it — weight in the right place does more for a support system than weight in total.

Hanging it and holding it steady

Clamp the corners first and even out the middle afterwards — the top edge is the part that shows. Hooks along the crossbar keep the hang even, a spring clamp secures anything that moves, and one spare clamp per kit saves needing an improvised fix on a tripod or a light tube.

Carrying it and keeping it

Folded, it is compact enough to transport as one piece: the carry bag in the package takes the whole collapsible set, so no extra sections travel loose. The quality worth paying for is boring: metal collars that still grip, a design with no part that only works while new. Aluminum keeps a pro kit portable, heavier metal makes it durable, and durability on gear like this is an argument about joints. We would rather sound dull than claim an excellent finish. Care is minimal: wipe the sections, keep the clamps in the same bag, store it dry. Roll fabric rather than folding it and a wrinkle stops being something you plan around.

    Great Value!

This C-Stand is built solid, I’ve used it on a few photo shoots thus far and can say I’m impressed at the build quality and value you get for it. I’d definitely recommend this if you’re looking for a well built c-stand with boom arm that doesn’t break the bank. Holds anything I put on it from lights to softboxes and taking it apart is a breeze.

Good build quality for the price

Sturdy and good quality for the price. Would buy a second if I ever need another c-stand. Could probably fit two stands in the one bag that it comes with which is a plus.
