This is our answer for the setup that has to go up, hold still and come down the same evening. The columns go up to 7ft, so the top edge sits above the subject rather than in the frame.

We build it in aluminium alloy because gear that lives in a car boot gets handled badly. It arrives with a retractable crossbar, a portable format and a carry bag. We keep one listing per size so you are never guessing which box arrives.

Key features

  • Retractable Crossbar. The retractable design makes the crossbar more flexible in use. Users can adjust to the appropriate width as required to adapt to different sizes of background backdrop. For a good decorative effect, it is best not to hang objects over 10lbs.
  • Sturdy Tripod Backdrop Stand. With adjustable height (2.6ft/0.8m–7.0ft/2.1m) , the aluminum alloy backdrop stand is durable, and the design of the tripod base ensures it won’t shake when fully extended to its maximum size. Please kindly measure your backdrop and venue space before purchasing to make sure it matches.
  • Better Effect with Accessories. The clamp made of strong and rugged type of plastic, matches with clips enable to clamp anything onto the stand tightly and present a better shooting effect. And sandbags can make the back drop stand more stable after loading heavy objects.
  • Portable and Compact. The stand kit is very lightweight and portable after being put into the carry bag, and will not take up too much space. It can be conveniently stored in the bedroom, living room and corner.
  • Multifunctional Application. This backdrop stand kit is suitable for newborn photography, baby photo shoot, professional photo studio shooting, product display background, DIY photo booth, pet pictures, shooting video or home/wedding/parties decoration. Note: Due to gravity, the crossbar will bend slightly, It is not suggest to hang anything too heavy and kindly please use sandbags to add weight for keeping stable in windy conditions.

Where it sits in the range

Every EMART set starts with the same question: what is holding the background up? These are our photography backdrop stands — single crossbar, double, triple, T-shape and full pipe and drape — sized by the width of background they carry.

Where it earns its place

This is a support system first and a photography accessory second. Hang a muslin, a white sweep, a black drape or a green chroma panel across the crossbar and the frame does not care which. What it cares about is the span, the working height and the weight at the legs — the three figures that decide whether a background stand is the right size for your room.

Matching it to a photography backdrop stand

Size is a room problem before it is a shopping problem. Take the wall you shoot against, measure across it and subtract a foot at each end for the legs — the rest is what the frame can accommodate once it is open. Then decide height, because that is the figure people change their mind about the moment the subject stands up: seven feet suits seated work, full-length needs the sections fully expanded so the top edge of a white, black, green or seamless muslin surface never appears. Leave space between the subject and the surface too; stood directly against it, a face picks up every mark behind it. A small room rewards a little extra span, which is where an additional panel or a prop goes. In general, choosing one size up is the cheaper mistake.

Setting it up

Setup is hands only. The sections are telescopic, so you assemble it by pulling up and locking rather than by counting parts, and the adjustable collars let you stop anywhere between the stops. Mounting uses the standard fitting for this type of gear, so it mates with what is already in your bag, and it goes up quickly enough to do alone. Stability is a question of footprint. Open the legs to their stops, press the feet down, and position the base so the heaviest part of the load sits over it — weight in the right place does more for a support system than weight in total.

Clamps, hooks and the top edge

Hang the surface a little narrower than the crossbar so it has something to pull against. A spring clamp secures each corner, hooks carry the middle, and that clamp will just as happily hold a light modifier or pin a cable to a tripod tube when the kit outgrows the room.

Bag, case and care

The bag in the package is the one it will spend its life in: collapsible frame, small parts, extra clamps. Folded it is portable enough for a train and compact enough for a boot. Material and durability are the same question here. Aluminum alloy is the light choice and steel the enhanced one, and the quality of a design shows in whether a section still locks after a year. Professional gear is rarely powerful; it is excellent at being predictable, which is practicality rather than polish. Wipe the metal down after an outdoor event, keep the small parts together, and store it standing rather than flat under something heavier. Fabric care is one rule: rolled, not folded — a wrinkle photographs.
